It Was A Pleasure To Take Your Picture

Two months ago we sent out a request to find someone in Acadiana who was looking for something different.

The exact qualifications for the shoot on the Kaptography Facebook page were as follows: – Unique – Ready to change something internal – Not a professional model – Ready for something different. We certainly were met with a large task of choosing from some amazing people and personal stories. Kaptography is very happy to say Katie Mayers was chosen for this photo contest.

Katie Mayers inquired about the request online and has a passion for all things creative, unique, and beautiful. After recently undergoing a recent Craniotomy (brain surgery) her life was changed dramatically. But this procedure needed to happen after finding a mass from a previous concussion as well as two Hematomas. Katie experienced blurred vision, slurred speech, massive headaches, seizures, memory loss, and problems with concentration before her surgery.

After receiving Katie’s message we realized she also had to trim her long black hair as a part of the process…it was hard but from her own words “it was necessary.” We were able to see her cut her hair in a video on her Facebook page before her surgery. She seemed to be in good spirits the entire time and also ready for things to get better with her health.

When asked “Why did you want to do this photoshoot?” She told us “I knew this was going to be a symbol of my life changing and I really wanted to capture that….and also trying to stay as positive as I can at the same time.”

After the surgery: We asked Katie what are your plans for the future. Here were some personal quotes… “Experiencing life to it’s fullest potential.” “Katie says getting her life back was everything to her…and not knowing what the outcome was going to be when she opened her eyes after surgery was pretty life changing.”

We couldn’t agree more and we have to say it was truly a pleasure to spend the day with Katie during a photoshoot which consisted of visiting some naturally beautiful places around the Acadiana area.

Katie is truly someone we were happy to meet as well as spend time with during this photoshoot. When we spoke to her the first time we could tell her recent hair loss was a “small” factor for her through this because of her love to see the outcome. She told us she purchased a couple of wigs, but did not even want to bring them along. Now 6 weeks after her surgery she shows amazing signs of improvement. And we pray it will continue as much as possible. From becoming her friend on Facebook we see her positivity has not changed a bit also. Thank you for being so strong, and being so positive through such a major change. You are truly one reason why Acadiana is so beautiful. It was a pleasure to take your picture. ~ Kevin Ste Marie / Kaptography
